Everyone has their own idea when the word “sandal” is mentioned. Even Merriam-Webster’s dictionary has different meanings:

1)      a shoe consisting of a sole strapped to the foot;

2)      a low-cut shoe that fastens by an ankle strap;

3)      a strap to hold on a slipper or low shoe;

4)      a rubber overshoe cut very low.

Fashion sandals have a wide array of styles. For example, the espadrille sandal has a flexible sole and fabric upper. The t-strap sandal or toe-loop sandal both have very little to cover the feet. The toe-loop has one toe ring to keep the sandal in place. Wedge sandals and clogs both have thick soles; both often incorporate cork for the heels. Flip flops are perhaps the most popular type of sandal. These sandals are so named because of the sound the footwear makes when worn. There are many brand name sandals ranging from Teva Sandals, Rainbow, Birkenstock to Born, Jack Rogers, Bernardo and even Harley-Davidson. Sandals come in all shapes and sizes, for men and for women.

Today you will find that Teva sandals are a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation and their name means Nature in Hebrew. In the beginning however many of those who began to wear these sandals would complain of problems relating to the thong style strapping. It was during this time that Mark Thatcher went into partnership with Deckers Corporation. The first new design to come off the production line was known as the Hurricane and this particular model now acts as the basic design for all Teva sandals that are produced today.

All the Teva sandals produced today come with a 2 layer sole which has an inner sole that is softer than the outer sole and most of them now come with arch supports. Today the strapping system now consists of three sections. The toe post, the heel strap and the side strap all of which are connected together by triangular rings and each strap is then able to go through one side of the ring so making them much more comfortable to wear and also causing fewer problems in relation to foot problems.
