It is amazing how often medical opinions change. My sister-in-law mentioned that when her son was that age the doctor told her to start feeding him cereal. Each of us had been given different advice about feeding our infants. We also laughed about how strict the doctors were regarding infant shoes. The infant shoes were leather with hard bottoms and came up past the ankle.

I remember taking in my first born to a shoe store that specialized in infant shoes. His little feet were measured and he was fitted with the high topped infant shoes. He hated wearing them. Every morning it was a struggle to get the small shoes on his feet. My niece said that in her baby book it says not to put hard bottom shoes on the infants until they have started to walk.

How To Find The Right Infant Shoes

The infant shoes will not only protect your infant’s feet, but they will help with balance, hygiene and promoting proper posture. There are several important attributes to consider when you are buying infant shoes. There are plenty of designers and brands of infant shoes available in today’s market. The flexibility is important for the infant’s shoes as their feet are still growing and will need some room to adjust. For most types of infant shoes you will need the accompaniment of baby socks which will need to fit snugly into the shoe. Irritation, dry skin, or painful blisters can develop if the infant’s shoe is not the proper size.

Babies need the protection of infant shoes on their feet, especially since they are still unable to discern the hazards around them. Infant shoes also have other purposes, such as providing warmth for their feet. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find the right infant shoes. Unlike the regular developed feet, which are rectangular in proportion, infant feet are square-shaped.

Parents should first make sure that the infant shoes provide enough safe for the infant’s feet. These are for two reasons-the infant’s irregularly-shaped feet and the growth of the infant’s feet. Lace-up shoes are also a poor choice of infant shoes; this kind of infant clothing should be reserved when the infants are old enough to tie their own shoes. The lace of these shoes can also cause the infant to trip and fall, so they are very risky. The most important consideration when buying infant shoes is the comfort and protection it can give.
