The Ideal Driving Shoes

Executive Summary about Driving Shoes by David Carne

Driving shoes are very important element when using plant machinery or driving on the road. It’s well known however, that quite a lot of people drive with thick-soled shoes. Wearing bag driving shoes can cause serious accidents on the road and in the workplace. Your brand new pair of shoes might look fantastic but obviously you can’t wear them to drive a car, or a forklift truck, or any other form of vehicle in a working environment.

What driving shoes to buy? Pay attention to the sole. Driving shoes must have a sole thin enough to feel the amount of pedal pressure needed to meet the necessary braking and accelerating. So you should do all your best to find driving shoes with thin soles, narrow welts and adequate ankle flexibility. Avoid trainers because of their thick and padded sole.

Here is a recap of finding driving shoes to look for:

  1. The sole of driving shoes should be thicker than 10cm.
  2. Simultaneously, the sole should not be too thin or too soft.
  3. There should be enough grips to prevent the sole from slipping off the pedals.
  4. The shoe should not be too heavy.
  5. The sole should not limit ankle movement.
  6. It should not be wide enough not to accidentally step on two pedals.
  7. Gym or walking shoes are quite suitable for driving in but not in an industrial plant.

More than 11.5 million women drivers in the UK are putting themselves and other drivers at risk by wearing the wrong driving shoes when behind the wheel. A massive 78% of female drivers in Yorkshire wear inappropriate driving shoes when in control of a car.
